Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D

To some people, Katy Perry releasing a movie might just be another ploy to generate dollars. But to millions of thousands of adoring fans like me, things like this -- a look into the life of a favorite music superstar -- are everything we could ask for. It gives you that feeling that you are somehow connected with these celebrities personally, that you know them a little better than anyone else.

When I first heard about "Part of Me 3D" I thought it was just going to be the "California Dreams Tour" in film format so when I saw the teaser trailer, that it's actually gonna have everything from the beginning of Katy's career, I was surprised and immediately got very excited about it.

To be totally honest, watching the full trailer had me tearing up and having goosebumps all over. I loved Katy from the start of her mainstream pop career so I can say I've been a fan for 4 years or so already. With every song and music video she releases, my admiration for her just grows stronger. And after watching the movie, I'm sure my feelings would be magnified even more. :)

The California Dreams Tour

While I'm feeling sick right now, what makes it bearable is the happy thought that I was able to go see Katy Perry perform for the second time here in Manila. Last night was the final date for her California Dreams Tour and it was an amazing show!

It was my first time going to a concert without being prepared, meaning, still not having a ticket in my hand while on my way to the venue so I was panicking already when we got to MOA at around 7:30. Me and my friend ended up going inside at a little over 8 o'clock and DJ Skeet Skeet (Katy's opening act) had already started with his set by then. He finished at around 8:20 or so and said something like, "And for the last time in this tour I'm gonna say, Katy Perry's up next!" Then the crowd went wild. But we ended up waiting for her up until 10pm because there were some technical difficulties with the cameras and they had to solve a certain security issue (according to Katy's tweet).

But all of it was well worth the wait because the show went wonderfully! Katy's energy was superb and her vocals have definitely improved a lot! I had so much fun that a couple people were throwing me looks because I was so loud. Hahaha. But I didn't really care though since you're actually supposed to be loud and crazy at a concert! You paid to have a great time so might as well make the most of the experience. Although this time, I didn't look like a mad woman singing out loud and screaming and freaking out by myself like the last time I watched Katy's concert since I had a friend who came to watch and sing and scream loudly with me. :)

Here's last night's setlist:

  1. Teenage Dream
  2. Hummingbird Heartbeat
  3. Waking Up In Vegas
  4. Ur So Gay
  5. Peacock
  6. I Kissed A Girl
  7. Circle The Drain
  8. E.T.
  9. Not Like The Movies
  10. The One That Got Away
  11. Hot N Cold
  12. Last Friday Night
  13. Firework
  14. California Gurls

Highlights for me were Not Like The Movies and Firework (which, I admit, made me tear up a bit). And of course, her quirky stint with Ivan Dorschner. Don't you just love her for being makulit? Hahaha! Will definitely do this all over again for the next tour, that is if Katy includes a Manila date again. And I think she will because she just loves us so much. <3

I'm also a KatyCat

Katy Perry was also present at the Grammys and she didn't disappoint with a very sweet and loving performance. She sang Not Like The Movies live for the first time while sitting on a swing. Then she was raised to reveal a curtain and it was a wonderful surprise when a home video of her & Russell Brand's wedding in India started playing on the background. She then closed out her performance with Teenage Dream saying, "This one goes out to all the Valentine lovers!"

Watch the video below:

Oh, and by the way, I wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day! May your hearts always be filled with love and affection wherever and whoever you may be. :)

Ignite the light and let it shine

Yesterday I was feeling somewhat nostalgic and I started missing Katy Perry (just goes to show how I attached I get with my favorite music, soon there's going to be a Rihanna post as well, I assure you) that I started watching all of her old video blogs again. I love watching those v-logs, vlogs or whatever... (I apologize for sounding like a creep though.)

And today I was on YouTube searching for her old performances. These are really old like 2 years ago old and it's a new artist showcase show so it's probably like one of her first shows. I remember watching these like eons ago. It feels so long ago but it's only been a couple of years. Later we'll get to the more recent stuff, don't worry... :)

I miss the acoustic Katy more than anything. I remember watching her perform live and I flipped out the most during the acoustic part of the show with Thinking of You & Mannequin. Katy + her guitar = my weakness, basically. I remember her saying she wants to do an acoustic album someday so I hope that will come to life in the future.

So now, onto the more recent stuff... Firework! I adore that song <3 Like what I told my friend, it's so GV-inducing (for a lack of a better term). Just realizing how far she's come and all the things she has achieved in the past couple years makes me so happy. From the homemade vlogs to Firework, it just makes me grateful to come to know her music. Yeah I know, I'm such a fangirl. But what can I say, I love Katy! :)

Pop Candy

I love it when I can listen to an album without skipping a track. Here are my favorite songs from Katy Perry's new record Teenage Dream:

1. Last Friday Night
2. Firework
3. The One That Got Away
4. Teenage Dream
5. Circle The Drain
6. Hummingbird Heartbeat
7. Not Like The Movies

I know, 7 out of 12 tracks is a lot. It was hard for me not to list all of the songs. Trust me, it took some serious elimination. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on the real thing! It comes out August 24th in the US and on the 30th for the rest of the world. :)

What goes around comes around

Let me recap what has been a rather emotional day:
  • I went home from school feeling rather lonely and defeated.
  • I spent time on Tumblr hoping it would drive the feeling away.
  • I decided I should watch a good picker-upper movie, so I watched Two Weeks Notice.
  • I cried at a couple scenes and the OST from Counting Crows made me depressed at first but then it cheered me up as well.
  • A kind hearted lady, which happens to be our boarder, brought home ice cream and cassava cake which helped a lot in cheering me up.
  • Then, finally I stumbled upon this new song by Katy Perry called "Not Like The Movies." I like it but it's kind of making me a bit depressed again...

Katy Perry - Mannequin

I don't remember actually writing about my watching Katy Perry's concert in Manila back in November of last year. (Probably because that was when I already lost all hope of ever going back to blogging.) Anyway, that night was one of the best ones I've ever had. Katy was simply amazing. She was so full of energy and spontaneity! And she talked a lot and made the audience laugh so that was a plus. Not to mention the songs she performed!! One of the Boys is one of my favorite albums and I am so glad I did what I did just to be able to watch the concert. I'm still kind of slightly bitter about her not singing Lost, though. It was one of my favorites.

But she did many of my other favorites to make up for it. And this--Mannequin--is one of my I-almost-cried-and-fainted-while-scream-singing moments. She didn't make it any easy for obsessed people like me, though, since the next song that she performed was Thinking Of You.
